We're delighted to host Shawna DeWitt of Mountain View Farm in Loudoun County, Va., Sunday, Nov. 8. She'll be bringing a mobile chicken processing unit from the Blue Ridge Center for Environmental Stewardship. Workshop participants will learn the basics of how to use this portable processor as part of their own backyard family food system.

9 09 2 003Here are just a few of the wonderful materials we worked with in Ann Ruppert’s fall floral design class.  It was a spectacularly beautiful fall day and we gathered wreath materials, pods and berries from the fields of Cool Spring to add to our arrangements.

We enjoyed great conversation, wonderful food and lots of laughs.  Sally was the first to call out “Look what I made.  I love it!”  We all went home with a wreath, a topiary and a table arrangement, some new friends and a sense that life is good and so are we.

journaling.jpgJust finished Rhonda Roebuck’s two day Mixed Media Journaling class.  Caught a photo of my good friend Nancy using watercolor to capture a special view from Mrs. Thornton’s Cottage where the class was held.  Rhonda is a great teacher and artist and brought lots of ideas, techniques and exercises that energized our creativity.  We gathered leaves and flowers from the fields of Cool Spring and dried them using a microwave flower press.  Each of our resulting journal books was uniquely our own and we had lots of conversation and sharing.  Just what CraftWorks is about.
